So to say, many Malaysians think it's a good start for re-branding the Malaysia Film Industry. Why? Maybe because no one have guts to produce such film cos it involves high budget? Or maybe the CGI effects? I dunno. When I first heard about the name of the film, Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa: The Malay Chronicles, plus the trailer, plus people pre-feedback, I was called to go and see the movie.
So it released yesterday and I dragged Nice Guy to the cinema with me. He, of course, never watched malay films before (he thinks all suck, which is sadly true to some extend, huh not to mention that Prof Madya's film, ugh) was so enthusiastic (yeah, I exaggerated haha) to watch it. People around us claimed it's good, bla bla bla so hey, let's see what's so good about this film.
So we went to GSC. Hell yeah, you can see a sea of people were there for HMM. First word came to mind 'WOW', totally amused! So we bought the ticket. Yahoooooo (I did feel happy and hope it really is good)
First 30minutes, I was struggling not to fall asleep. Damn yes! Me falling asleep in the cinema? Owh please, I fell asleep cos it's a heavy or slow movie? Hell NO! The character development sucks. The sound effects, owh way too not suitable, unnecessary speech, and it's just not so authentic! I didn't get the impact. It's disappointing. And the language used? Why cant they just stick to the original language? 16th century and the Romans and Chinese are speaking English! Come on!
Alright, I will be hated by all KRU and HMM die hard fans. I'm just stating my opinion. Please3, I really want to support Malay Film Industry. And please people, I know it's a 8 million film, so what?!! And I am not comparing this to any hollywood films cos for sure HMM beats Twilight and those stupid films for overseas. (I still think the fighting scenes are a combination of 300+Troy+Braveheart)
It is worth watching but if you expect more, dreams on!
p/s: I don't care even if it's a billion dolar film, if it's suck, it sucks!
